Policies, Systems and Environmental Changes with Minnesota’s Allison Faricy

Work site wellness- policies, systems and environmental changes to create healthy workplaces.

Minnesota has been working hard throughout the past couple of years to increase policies, systems and environmental changes that promote and incentivise healthy behaviors in work sites.  I will highlight a few of these successful strategies as well as point listeners toward resources that can be adapted for their work sites.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the successes and challenges Minnesota employers have faced in work site wellness
  • Learn how to implement strategies to improve health in work sites, focusing on policies, systems and environmental changes
  • Gather resources that may be useful to use in work sites, such as toolkits, sample policies and work site wellness websites

Allison Faricy:
Work site Wellness Coordinator/Tribal Liaison
Minnesota Department of Health

Allison has worked for the Statewide Health Improvement Program since it began in 2009. Since then, she has honed her skills and made many connections within work site wellness.  Creating healthy work sites is a professional mission of hers.  She seeks to create cultures of health within work sites, mainly though policies, systems and environmental changes.  A large percentage of an adult’s time is spent at their work site and she believes this is an important arena for implementing strategies to keep people healthy.

Public Health Law Center worksite wellness site and complete streets policy. I was mistaken. It seems there are no downloadable sample policies for physical activity breaks on their website, but have many resources available.
